About Jerry

Raised on music and a lot of love

Jerry Foster grew up on his father’s farm in Missouri, served in the U.S. Marines, and came to Nashville in 1966 as a radio DJ. With his writing partner Bill Rice, he went on to write some of country music’s best-loved songs, from Charley Pride’s “The Day the World Stood Still” to Jerry Lee Lewis’s “Would You Take Another Chance on Me” and “I’ll Think of Something,” a hit for Hank Williams Jr. and a No. 1 for Mark Chesnutt.

Foster & Rice once took home ten ASCAP awards in a single night, and in 1994 they were inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Jerry turned 90 in November 2025, and he still plays every Sunday night at The Commodore Grille. “I’m a rock’n’roller,” he says. “For me the music never got out of the fifties.”
